The game is fine and I am getting good fps even in Org, but I can't help feeling that the amount of disk activity when playing WoW is excessive.

I've been logged in for about 20 minutes and Task Manager is already showing over 4 million disk writes (as opposed to only 186,000 disk reads). I have XP SP2 with write caching enabled. 4 GB of RAM with page file size as recommend by Windows.

It's pretty annoying listening to my hard disk rattle away endlessly and I expect that all this activity can't be normal - can it?

Hi there,

Unfortunately there's no way to tell what would be normal, I don't think we've ever measured how much disk activity goes on during a normal play session.

You might be able to help this by deleting the Cache folder in the Data directory though, as that's where it's unpacking data to, if something's going wrong there this'll reset it.

Might also need to do a Scandisk and Defrag, just in case something is going wrong there:
