Exargon | Better Blizzard Downloader (Suggestion)Wed, 01. Feb. 2012 15:02 GMT Hello, I'm contacting you regarding "Blizzard downloader". I did read "http://eu.battle.net/support/en/article/networking-help-for-the-blizzard-downloader" But I would like to suggest a better way for upgrading multiple computers on the same network. I have 3 computers at home and 2 WoW accounts. When updating we consume huge amount of bandwidth trying to keep all of them up to date. I'm aware that I can move the files across the network, but it's a hassle to locate the new files and move them manually. I'm sure Blizzard is capable of enhancing the launcher to detect adjacent IP's on the same network e.g (192.168.1.x). Which I've seen while updating 3 computers at once. I closed the update on 2 computers and left 3rd to complete update and then launched the downloader on the 2 machines after the 3rd is over so they would leech from it. But the updated machine has no connections after it's done updating. It would be great if Blizzard enhanced the downloader to make updating multiple computers on the same network very user/bandwidth friendly. How?: 1. User will run the downloader on 1 machine. 2. After download is over the downloader will wait for incoming connections while "Play" button is not pressed. (Launcher.exe) 3. When new computers launch the downloader, it will search the local network for Blizzard downloader that's waiting for incoming connections as well as other peers on the internet. 4. If the detected machine on local network is fully up to date then terminate all internet update connections. 5. The downloader on the 1st machine will provide the data to the new local downloaders at local network speed. This will greatly reduce the bandwidth on users as well as Blizzard servers. Regards. |

Feb. 2012 16:02 GMT Hi there, If you have Bonjour installed (a service that Apple provides, it comes with iTunes for example) the Downloader will do precisely this. However this doesn't happen yet in the default downloader, but this is something we may look into adding at a future date. |
