Launcher issues since 'optimization'Sun, 19. Feb. 2012 18:02 GMT

approximately 4-5 days ago i ran wow for the first time in a few of weeks, knowing there was a patch i left it to run for a while, went and made coffee and the like..

when i got back the optimization screen was still up, and was about 40-50% of the way through. so i left it to run, and did other stuff, when it finished that stage it began the patch, downloaded it without error, then said 'applying updates 0%' at the bottom.

yay, thinks me, wow soon.
this is where things become interesting.

after freezing up for some time at 0% the launcher tells me that it cannot apply the patch and i should run repair.
then, when i run repair it tells me it cannot fix the problem, and i should reinstall.

now these issues i can understand, as i was using a 3g connection (vodafone broadband dongle) to download the patch, and i have had issues like this with other games when downloading updates on the dongle. I have since returned to using a standard wireless network (BT internet)

so. i have uninstalled, and started the reinstall. and i'm having even more fun.

so far i have managed to donload approximately 700mb of game files, even with the current issues, i will list those below:

approximately half of the time the launcher starts out with a red bar instead of the orange one, then recalibrates. when this happens after the recalibration it tells me that wow is fully downloaded.

when the above does not happen, even though the launcher, updater, downloader, repair tool, uninstaller and game exe are set as exceptions to the firewall, the download starts at a reasonable speed, but always drops off quickly and stops downloading quite often.

also, if the launcher has been open for more than about 30 seconds, if i try to close it (by clicking the X in the top right corner) if freezes up, and will not close until i disconnect from the internet.

finally, and most rarely, i sometimes get an Error #132 crash during download, fatal exception / access violation type affair.

i have never had these issues before, and have tried every fix i can think of or find for simillar issues in these forums.

Hi there,

It does sound like something may be throttling the connection, can you try to restart into a Selective Startup and see if this issue persists?

Also, can you check on the Launcher, under Info and Connection Info, and see if the table at the bottom is being filled out with lots of information? Or if it's just empty (or has only one or two lines of information)
