3dvision and config.wtf weird issue.Mon, 20. Feb. 2012 22:02 GMT

ok, so i have this really weird issue here and even though it's not unplayable it's still slightly annoying. i'll try to explain in as much detail as i can.

Whenever i start my World of Warcraft, i need to delete my config.wtf file before i run WoW, otherwise it will crash into desktop almost instantly, and often even a BSOD is a result. The reason is that WoW kills my nvidea display driver because for some reason it doesn't see the 3d vision support. (I have a single GTX 580 and Asus VG278H with build-in 3d vision emiter, all drivers are up-to-date and the hardware is in fine condition)

now, this is ONLY the case when the config.wtf file is in place. because when i run WoW while the config.wtf file is deleted, it runs perfectly fine. i can even switch between 2d and 3d on the fly and it does not ever crash or drop FPS. (it runs smoothly at 120+ in 2d mode and 60+ in 3d mode, which is still decent considering the extra GPU power needed to process the extra data, and it's just flawlessly smooth anyway).

the thing is, whenever i exit WoW and restart it again, the option in the "advanced" tab do not show the "enable stereo video" options anymore (the 3d vision support). and for that very reason, the driver support fails and it crashes (3d enabled or not, doesn't matter, it just crashes).

so there's two ways for me to solve it:

1) i could force 3d vision to be disabled by my nvidea driver itself (obviously this will only allow 2d mode)

2) i need to delete config.wtf EACH and EVERY time before i start WoW. (forcing me to configure all the settings again every time and read the ToS and EULA each time too). although this way i can play both 2d and 3d mode without crashing, and without any display issues.

so please, can anyone help me with this issue, because it's not very fun to do these chores each time.

WoW is running FINE as long as the config.wtf is deleted before i run WoW

Hi there,

What deleting the config.wtf file does is it resets all settings to default, and it auto-detects what options it believes are best for your system.

Can I ask you which settings you change when you start the game? I'm curious to see if one of them is causing this issue.

Are you switching graphics API too? Do you switch to Directx 11 in-game?
