Zao | Guild Member Passed Away - Memorial SetupTue, 01. Feb. 2011 12:02 GMT One of our guildies has passed away IRL. As a guild master i was asked by several people to do something for this member. As i've been searching a lot on the internet to search for similar cases, i coudln't find anything. Therefor i decided to post what we did to honor our guild member. Maybe someone can use it for inspiration if he/she has the same problem. I planned in the guild calendar a memorial. All guildies were invited and i asked someone to contact ex-guildies to let them know a memorial was held. It was organised in the Lights Dawn Cathedral. it's an empty cathedral with plenty of space. This is the text : Please take note that during this short service you don’t yell, speak or whisper. You’ll get plenty of time after it. Today we are here to honor our dear friend and guildmember Sasull (Troll, Rogue, Lv80) whose real name is Michael. I wish to thank all members who are here today, and I also wish to thank all members who are feeling with me about the loss of our fine member. Michael, welcome. I’m sure you are here with us now. Michael passed away October 2010. We heard the sad news recently… After joining R of F (guild) in 2008, Michael changed from one guild to another but couldn’t find the right one until he finally joined Virus on August 1st, 2008. A few months after I joined Virus. He had the feeling not being accepted in any guild until he met us. Only a few people knew about Michaels illness. He lost his battle against MS (Multiple Sclerosis) last year. Every twenty minutes or so, the poor fellow had to take breath from a respirator. Even during raids, he went AFK for a few minutes. Even so he did manage to keep up with the raid group and helped the guild to slay a bunch of bosses. In this moment of regret, I also know that Michael was a very optimistic guy and I know Virus contributed a lot to his happiness during his course of illness. The fact that he had a difficult time, and the fact that all officers and most members appreciated him surely affected us all positively and in a certain way improved our lives. May he always be remembered as an honored member of Virus, a good friend, a good player. We will setup a Tribute Run to an instance for him soon. I’m sure everyone will appreciate it. The exact date will be announced in the Guild Calendar. Please understand that you always respect the player standing next to you in any group or guild. It could be another Sasull who’s trying to forget his problems. Michael, dear friend, may you rest in peace! I hope God created an instance for you in heaven! Now I would like you all to /kneel for a moment… Thank you for coming … As i am a Holy Priest and his guild leader, it was evident that i did this service. So after this text, i blessed all members. Then i yelled that everyone had to use all spells they got in order to honor him. The service was very emotional but in my opinion it was a success. After the service it took almost the whole evening to answer the many whispers... And here is the link to his photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/59810231@N08/5462618565/ |

I am glad to hear that the memorial turned out to be as successful as what you hoped for. The loss of someone close, whether it be IRL or someone you've spent considerable time playing with online, is never an easy thing to face. I'm sure that Michael would have appreciated the memorial that you set up, and would like to offer condolences to anyone who knew him. May he rest in peace. |
